Question -

If the point (2, -2) lies on the graph of the linear equation 5x + ky =4, find the value of k.

Answer -

∵  Point (2, -2) lies on the graph of the linear equation 5x + ky = 4
∴  It will satisfy it
∴ Now substituting the values of x and y 5 x 2 + k (-2) = 4
⇒ 10 – 2k = 4 ⇒  -2k = 4 – 10 = -6 -6
⇒ k=   =3
Hence k = 3
